Location

Nairobi National Park

Nairobi National Park is the wildlife reserve in the world with such a huge variety of animals and birds close to a capital city. It is a principal attraction for visitors to Nairobi and also serves many local residents.

As a successful rhino sanctuary, the park has an excellent record for supporting the species and nurturing them until they are re-located to their former range and to other upcoming sanctuaries. Due to this success, it is one of the few parks where a visitor can almost certainly see a black rhino in its natural environment.

Biodiversity

Nairobi National Park Ecosystem

Nairobi National Park has over 400 species of bird (some are seasonal). Northern migrants pass through the park primarily during late March through April.

To the south of the park is the Athi-Kapiti Plains and Kitengela Migration and dispersal area. These are vital areas for herbivores dispersal during the rains and concentrate in the park in the dry season. The herbivores attract various predators, including leopards, cheetahs, hyenas and lions

This is where we started our 12 days safari adventure with Gamewatchers in Kenya. What was special about this park was the short distance from the city to the feeling of the jungle when we arrived at the Nairobi Tented camp. On the way to the camp, we saw lions and giraffes. When we came to the camp it was a warthog grassing by our tent:) The tent was clean and had everything we could ask for, even with hot water bottle in bed. The food was excellent, even for vegetarians.

I was very impressed with Nairobi National Park, the game viewing was brilliant – so many rhinos plus other general game.
I spent 2 nights at Nairobi Tented Camp, the tent was spacious and comfortable. The food was excellent and everyone so friendly and welcoming.

It was so amazing to hop in the safaris trucks from our hotel and ride through the park seeing animals while heading to our tented camp. Having the campsite deep within the park felt so remote and created a more immersive experience. Id prefer this over staying at any lodge because the people are amazing the tented camp give you a more Kenyan experience. All of the staff was so attentive and friendly. The food was literally perfect. Special thanks to the warriors at night protecting our camp site from any danger. Definitely Recommend!!

We were skeptical about this camp. Thinking “safari lite”. But since 7 of the 12 of my family had never been on safari; and we all wanted to go to the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, I booked 2 nites here before the rest of our safari at Amboseli & Mara Tented Camps. We were so impressed. Would highly recommend this camp at the beginning of your safari, or even by itself if time/resources are limited. The staff was attentive, food was excellent, and our drivers made sure we saw everything we wanted. We were especially grateful to see the rhinos (both black & white). Nairobi National Park is one of the few places you can be sure to see them. Definitely recommend the Nairobi Tented Camp!

Arrived on the overnight Kenya Airways flight and straight out on safari. Very comfortable tent (No 4) and George looked after us at the camp site extremely well. Sylvester was our guide and we caught his excitement too when spotting 3 cheetah among lots of other animals and birds. Our time seemed to go so quickly – thank you for making our stay memorable!
