It has just six spacious guest tents. The camp offers Wifi Internet in the public areas . The camp is entirely solar-powered and the comfortable tents have fans and charging points for use in the day. Also ensuite bathrooms with hot shower, flush toilet and water on tap. The chef uses fresh ingredients to prepare high quality meals and even home-baked bread. Indian cuisine is available on request. The camp welcomes children aged 8 years and over (see Prices Information for more details).

Location

Ol Kinyei Conservancy

This 18,700 acre Kenyan wildlife conservancy is on a tranche of land belonging to a Maasai community who leased it to Porini Camps to be set aside for the purposes of wildlife conservation.

Ol Kinyei Conservancy is home to two safari camps, the Porini Mara Camp and Porini Cheetah Camp and the Ol Kinyei Safari Cottages. The is also one small mobile camp called the Porini Bush Camp (high season only). Apart from our eco-camps, no other tourist vehicles are allowed into the Conservancy so our guests have the thousands of acres in the conservancy to themselves but we are also able to have game drives in the neighbouring Naboisho Conservancy which we also support by contributing to the land lease payments to the local Maasai community.

Biodiversity

Maasai Mara Ecosystem

The Maasai Mara ecosystem is home to approximately 25% of Kenya’s wildlife. It hosts more than 95 mammal species besides being a recognized Important Bird Area (IBA) with 550 bird species.

Presently, about 70 per cent of this wildlife is living outside the gazetted conservation area -the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Adjacent land owned by local communities form key dispersal and diversity areas.

“Great Camp, great staff & numerous & varied animals. We will have visited many camps on this trip but our stay here would have by itself fulfilled our expectations of Kenya”

Our guides were wonderful! The food was outstanding! The owners are so great and genuinely excited to hear about your day while you’re all having dinner together. We saw so much wildlife! Absolutely wonderful! It was absolutely perfect!

Great wildlife and landscapes. Staff is exceptional. Your driver/guide and spotter are experts at locating and identifying the wildlife. The camp manager, John is often at the camp when you return from your game drives to welcome you back and ask how was your day. Hosts, Jui and Nirmalya make you feel as you are old friends. Food is tasty and artfully presented. Tent is clean, roomy and nicely decorated.

Mara Reserve Fees & Extra night rates:

Our Porini Camps in the Mara are adjacent to the reserve in exceptionally rich wildlife areas where tourism density is controlled and deliberately kept very low (1 guest tent to 700 acres) and as such there is no need to visit the Mara National Reserve to view lions,  cheetahs, leopards, elephants, buffalo, giraffe, hippo etc.  Stays in our camps in the conservancies also include extra activities like night game drives, guided bush walks, bush meals and sundowners. However, should guests wish to include an extra visit to the reserve this can be pre-booked with the additional park entry charge applicable (currently $80 per person for 2023, $100 per person for 2024 low season & $200 per person for 2024 high season, subject to change). As the park entry tickets for the reserve must be booked and paid for in advance, this option needs to be confirmed at time of booking. Extra night rates include activities on the Conservancy but a visit into the National Reserve is subject to the extra Reserve fee on top of the above rates.
