The Gamewatchers adventure camp located in the Selenkay conservancy is on a 15,000 acre private wilderness area in the Maasai land near Amboseli. The Conservancy is one of the pioneers of community conservation in Kenya. The Maasai community in Selenkay is receiving direct benefits from wildlife and is now seeing wildlife as a valuable resource which belongs to them.
Within the conservation area the following animals have been seen recently: elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, Thompson's and Grant's gazelles, gerenuk, impala, oryx, lesser kudu, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, warthog, striped hyena, jackal, bat-eared fox, caracal, African wild cat, serval cat, genet cat, honey badger, mongoose and ostrich. Birdlife is prolific, especially birds of prey.
The Gamewatchers Adventure Camp offers the same high quality wildlife safari experience provided by the top-end safari camps, with game viewing in 4x4 safari vehicles escorted by top class Maasai guides and spotters in an exclusive wildlife conservancy far away from the tourist minibuses. This is all at a hugely reduced price, achieved by staying in a more basic adventure camp, which is more like “real camping” instead of the luxury accommodation of the expensive up-market tented lodges.
Accommodation is in small dome tents which accommodate 2 adults (or can fit one child with 2 adults). The tents are 6 ft high and 10ft x 10ft square, and are insect-proof. Guests bring their own sleeping bag and a towel (or one can hire these at a small cost per day) and sleep on the comfortable mattress on the tent floor. Each tent has its own bathroom in a cubicle located behind the tent with flash toilet, wash basin and safari shower.
Service staff at the camp will wash up, clean, heat water for showers cook and serve the food. An experienced safari chef is at the camp to freshly bake the bread and prepare all the meals. Food is delicious and of the same quality as any luxury safari camp and is included in the price. Mineral water is provided daily at camp and on game drives and walks. Other drinks are not included, however, beer, house wine and soft drinks can be purchased at the camps, and there is no corkage fee for bringing a bottle of your favorite spirit.
All game drives are in four-wheel drive customized safari vehicles taking a maximum of 6 passengers. Your driver-guide is a wildlife expert and certified by the Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association.
Itinerary
Duration: 3 nights / 4 days
Day 1:
Fly from Wilson Airport, Nairobi to Selenkay Conservancy arriving at 08.35 to be met at the airstrip and transfer on a 15 minute drive to the Gamewatchers Adventure Camp gameviewing along the way. After checking into camp you will go out on a game drive, returning for lunch. Take a rest after lunch and then go out on an afternoon game drive to explore the Selenkay Conservancy. All the big cats have been seen in the Conservancy as well as elephants and a wide range of species including large numbers of giraffes, zebra, and antelopes. There are also less common animals to be seen such as the long-necked gerenuk gazelle, lesser kudu and African wildcat. All meals and mineral water are provided in camp. Dinner and overnight in the camp at Selenkay.
Day 2 :
After an early breakfast spend the morning on a game drive in the Selenkay Conservancy and an escorted nature walk with Maasai guides, returning to camp for lunch. In the afternoon you will visit a nearby Maasai Village where you will get to know more about the way of life of the Masai people before having a night game drive with a spotlight to seek out the nocturnal animals as you head back to camp in the dark. Dinner and overnight in camp at Selenkay.
Day 3 :
Early breakfast and then drive through the bush into Amboseli National Park for a full day there with good views of Kilimanjaro and close-up observation of elephants, as well as many other species. Return to camp in Selenkay Conservancy later in the afternoon after a picnic lunch. Dinner and overnight in the camp at Selenkay.
Day 4:
After breakfast, enjoy a final short early morning game drive in the conservancy as you make your way to the airstrip for your morning flight to Nairobi.

Child rates applicable for 10 – 16 year olds:
1 child sharing with 2 adults, child pays child package price above while the 2 adults pay per adult sharing rate.
1 child sharing with 1 adult, child pays child package price above while the 1 adult pays single adult rate.
2 or 3 children sharing in own tent, each child pays 75% of per adult rate. Child under 10 yrs not recommended.
Sleeping bag & towel:
Supplement for hire of sleeping bag & towel : US$ 15 per person per night
Exclusive vehicle use:
Sole use of the open sided 4x4 safari vehicle during game drive US$ 375 per vehicle per day.
Late afternoon departure:
Late departure after 10h00 US$ 150 per person minimum 2 pax (includes lunch, soft drinks and activities before departure in the late afternoon).
Charter flight: From 15th December 2014 to 31st March 2015 & from 01st July 2015 to 31st October 2015 we will offer daily charter flights with minimum 2 pax between Nairobi, Wilson Airport and Amboseli, Selenkay Airstrip which is very close to Porini Amboseli Camp & Selenkay Adventure Camp. The charter flight is only 35 minutes departing Nairobi, Wilson Airport at 08h00 and arriving Amboseli, Selenkay Airstrip at 08h35. (Camp’s vehicle transfer to Porini Amboseli Camp or Selenkay Adventure Camp for free). The fare will be the same as if using schedule flight fare upto Selenkay Airstrip however if clients fly to or from Amboseli Airstrip within the dates specified above then there is a supplement of US$ 50 per person one way for pick up or drop off.
Flight supplement:
Mombasa:For flying from Amboseli to Diani/Ukunda/Moi Airport instead of flying to Nairobi US$ 430 per adult & US$ 230 per child 10 – 12 years (one way flight). Includes late departure charge & mandatory US$ 90 park fee.
Extra night rate:
For every 2 or 3 night stay one visit into Amboseli National Park is included. Any extra visit into the park must pay US$ 90 per person per day on top of above rates.
